Whats the best ecommerce software?

Q) I am looking atb so many different sites and companies offering online shops-in-a-box, shopping carts etc - Which one is the best??!!??! Please help!

A) I like Zen Cart. Setting up a shopping cart is a major pain. Zen Cart is organized to make that easier, and to make maintenance easier. OSC-Max is similar, not as easy to use, but it has some features Zen Cart is missing. Most people won't need those features, but are you one of them? These are both freeware packages, built around the venerable OSCommerce base. There's also Cube Cart, which is fairly good. If none of those packages meets your needs, you *really* need to write your own software. The other freeware packages are too buggy to use, or seriously deficient in features. The problem with using closed-source software is that you never know when they are going to "upgrade" to a version that doesn't do what you need done, and when they do, your store is closed for however many weeks or months it takes for you to build a new store, using other software. If they do that with open source software, it's relatively easy to go in and make the changes you need, which means relatively cheap, relatively fast.

Any recommendation on shopping cart ecommerce software?

Q) I'm working on making an online paintballing store, and I'm looking for a program to make an ecommerce website that does not charge a monthly price to use. I would like to have the ability to add pictures to sub categories, and have specials listed on the homepage. I checked on cubecart, and it looks interesting, but I can't seem to find where to get the trial version of it. The site says there is one but I haven't had any luck in finding it yet

A) It really depends on what kind of items you'll be selling. Some shopping carts are better for digital products, etc. I would recommend osCommerce if you know the basics of PHP. If you don't, programming the template won't be that easy. The catalog is very easy to use, and many people use it. Therefore, you can visit the community page where they list some tweaks they have developed to creat more features. (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions). osCommerce also supports many payment modules including PayPal. It's FREE, and you can instantly create a shop if your host has Fantastico. CubeCart, also a major shopping cart system, is rather easy to use and program. It is also available for instant creation with Fantastico. The forums (http://cubecart.com/site/forums/) has features equivalent to osCommerce's contributions center. If you don't know much about PHP, but know basics about HTML, PayPal has a shopping cart under their "Merchants" section. It looks pretty basic to use. Hope it helped!

What's a good open-source or other free or affordable shopping cart program?

A) Open Source Commerce is a great store front that I recommend. http://www.oscommerce.com/ Also, you can try Zen Cart. http://www.zencart.com/ Both are open source, and both have plenty of plugins. ZenCart is a derivative of OsCommerce since some programmers that it was getting too big and drachonian. ZenCart had a lot of complaints in the past about too many SQL queries which would bog down the server, but this has been corrected now. Some thing I love about oscommerce is the forums, http://forums.oscommerce.com/ they can answer almost any question, no matter how complicated and the amount of plugins they have.

Can I build a catalog (using Excel to create the database for an ecommerce shopping cart?

Q) I'm new to web building, and I will either use the "WebBuilder" software that comes with my webhosting account, or I can use "Go-Live", but I want to be able to create and maintain my e-commerce catalogs with "Excel".

A) You don't want to work with Excel as a backend for a shopping cart, believe me. What you want to do is use ZenCart, which will do a fine job of managing your storefront and handling the business end. http://www.zencart.com

Q) I am not interested in scams,hosting places that charge fees. I am solely interested in buying my own Ecommerce software that has everything from website store,no HTML required, to shopping carts. Looking for a reputable company with a good BBB background check before purchasing. Or if you know of a store that carries this, thanks.

A) I take it you're planning on hosting the site yourself? You might want to consider Microsoft Commerce Server. It's reasonably secure for a Microsoft product, and is fairly simple to use if you're familiar with web server concepts. If you're adverse to Microsoft products, you could use something like osCommerce, which is open-source. The software is free, and support is widely available for free if you do it yourself, or you can find companies who will support the product for you for a fee.

Creating ecommerce website template?

Q) I plan to create an ecommerce web page through Photoshop, Imageready and GoLive. Is creating an ecommerce page any different from creating a regular webpage? I plan to get this hosted by SiteGround (http://www.siteground.com/hosting_features.htm) and it says there that it comes with a FREE Shopping Cart Software. What does this mean? Someone please help. Thanks! So is it the same with creating a regular webpage in Photoshop except I have to add a shopping cart menu or something? Or the free shopping cart provided by the host will place it automatically on my site? How will it know where I want it located in my site? This really confuses me.
